Shinzo Maeda Photo Book "HILL TO HILL"
My grandfather and landscape photographer Shinzo Maeda first visited Biei no Oka in 1971, exactly 50 years ago. After that, several photos taken over more than 20 years were published as photo books, but unfortunately most of them are out of print.
I want you to look at the scenery of the hills taken by Shinzo Maeda from a new perspective, rather than a reprint of the photo book of the past. With that in mind, I faced a huge amount of positive film and explored the possibilities of a new photo book. The photo book "The Four Seasons of the Hill", which my grandfather himself wrote in 1986, is an excellent book that shows the flow of spring, summer, autumn, and winter on the hill, and this method cannot transcend the past, and there is a sense of déjà vu.
The days when I hit the wall and couldn't move forward. In such a situation, the idea I came up with was to graphically connect the ridge of the hill. Beyond the seasons, beyond the era, the hills are connected from page to page. It's as if you're traveling from hill to hill with a photographer.
The photo book that took about a year to make will finally be published. Please feel the grand breeze of the hill blowing from the past to the present from the 50-year-old co-work between my grandfather and me.
